THE COMMUNITY

Nicknamed “The Limestone City” is a diverse city in Eastern Ontario with a population of over 120,000, fronting Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River. The city is rich in history, being the birthplace of Canada’s first Prime Minister, Sir John A. Macdonald, home to Fort Henry, and home to Queen’s University, one of Canada’s oldest and most highly touted higher learning institutions. The city and area are home to a large tourist attraction base in Fort Henry, along with sailing regatta CORK (Canadian Olympic training-Regatta, Kingston), an incredibly busy weekly festival and attractions, including the Kingston Buskers Rendevous, Feb Fest, 1000 Islands Poker Run, K-Town Triathlon, the Limestone City Blues Festival, Women’s Art Festival, as well as CFB Kingston, many arenas and recreation centres and programs, and an active night life scene. With such a diverse culture in the Kingston area and surrounding communities like Napanee, Gananoque, Amherstview and Bath, all within a 30 minute drive to the city, there are plenty of museums, art galleries, and historic sites – from small specialized museums and art venues brimming with local and international talent, to national historic treasures. This part of Eastern Ontario, known as the gateway to the world famous 1000 Islands, is also home to a vibrant arts, food and maker community, and is an ideal place to live.
