Gananoque is a community in the heart of the world famous 1000 Islands, and sits approximately 35 km from Kingston. Known as the “Gateway to the 1000 Islands”, and is home to Boldt Castle, the Gananoque 1000 Islands Casino and the Thousand Islands Playhouse. Offering picturesque views of the Saint Lawrence River, and a short drive from the Thousand Islands Bridge which crosses into the United States as Interstate 81. Gananoque lies directly on three of Canada’s busiest transportation routes: the four-lane Highway 401, the double-track Canadian National Railway main line, and the St. Lawrence Seaway. It is also home to a rich provincial highway heritage, being home to the remaining stretch of Highway 2. The western entrance to the Thousand Islands Parkway, also lies in Gananoque. It’s a community that is a definite tourist attraction, with the Gananoque Boat Lines offering 1 – 5 hour tours of the beautiful 1000 Islands, festivals such as Music in the Park, shopping in their historical downtown area, amazing fishing, hiking and biking trails, a recreation centre, as well as a Linklater Public School, Saint Joseph’s Separate School and Gananoque Secondary School.
